ONE Direction’s US management are trying to make heart-throb Harry Styles the boyband’s frontman.
Harry, who turns 18 today, has been pushed to the forefront during the group’s promotional work Stateside.
He received the starring role when the band filmed a guest spot on Nickelodeon teen hit iCarly, with Carly (Miranda Cosgrove, 18) developing a crush on him.
Sources claim executives are focusing their attention on Harry because boybands that make it big in America tend to have a recognised lead singer.
An insider said: “Columbia music execs are rubbing their hands with glee. It looks like One Direction are going to be absolutely massive in America.
“They decided long ago that Harry is a natural frontman. He’s funny, confident and has a great voice.”
But The X Factor lads – Harry, Louis Tomlinson, 20, Zayn Malik, 19, and Niall Horan and Liam Payne, both 18 – want to stick together.
A pal revealed: “They are determined to carry on the way they have been – without a lead singer. Harry certainly hasn’t asked for all this attention.”
